The Hit List – Nothing lasts forever

The Hit List - Nothing lasts forever

2023 has been a year…am I right? Although some things have been bopping along business as usual, a couple of intense eruptions in the family have forced me to adjust and readjust. Surprises? Yep. Things started to calm down about a week ago…but then the hits started coming again.

This past week, I had to take my twenty-year-old car into the shop for new fuel injectors. Sixteen hundred dollars later, my car is running like a champ. But then a city worker sprayed a bunch of mud with rocks on the hood, and now I’ll be visiting a body shop to get this sorted out (on their dime, not mine).

And today, my fifteen-year-old kitty seems to be walking slower and wonkier than usual. He’s been heading downhill for some time, but now the inevitable is staring us in the face. I’m not sure how long he’ll be around, but from my experiences with previous cats, it’s not looking good.

Sometimes life comes at you with one dramatic turn after another. My 2023 has been like that. But as a wise friend once said to me, “The highs and lows are rare. Most of the time, it’s long stretches of boring stuff.”

I keep that in mind when life throws me lemons or confetti. Nothing lasts, everything changes, and the time between all of that is a nothing burger of endless tasks and standing in lines.

So, now I prepare for more car repairs and plenty of cat love, all the while aware neither one will last forever.
